Serving God is a basic human need.
When we speak about human needs many think it’s restricted to material things. At the heart of man’s need is a desire for satisfaction. He eats to be satisfied, he dresses up and when he or she is satisfied they are happy going out. Needs are cravings longing to be satisfied.
Since God created man for himself, there must be at the heart of every single person a deep-seated craving to satisfy that purpose. Religion is huge in the world today, it has a huge market because it positions itself as the product or service to meet that craving.
That void cannot be filled by religious activities but by the Holy Ghost who fills us and we then express that in filling in the true service of God. There are dead works which are a product of our imagination and there is the true service of God.
When we get into the true service, then and only then will the fundamental need of humanity be laid to rest and man expresses joy unspeakable full of glory. Did Haggai not speak to this fundamental emptiness in man which cannot be filled by any material thing in itself?
“Then came the word of the Lord by Haggai the prophet, saying, is it time for you, O ye, to dwell in your cieled houses, and this house lie waste? now therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts; Consider your ways ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes. Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Consider your ways.”
The true service of God as directed by the Spirit of God is the only thing that can fill that void. There is a work that has been assigned to every person on the earth and until that is found and executed the person remains empty no matter the material things he or she has access to.
