The Nigerian Church and theological depth ~ Pastor Poju Oyemade

One of the issues the Church in Nigeria is battling with is a dearth of real teachers of the Scriptures. There is a lack of theological depth.

The problem started when teachers who are sticklers for the Word began to see deviations. They got offended and stepped out of love. They in the “battle” for truth and purity of doctrine in the written word, violated the basic commandment of the Living Word which is to walk in love. They also failed to understand that the fact that you are right doesn’t mean you’ll win when winning is judged by numbers.

Apart from teaching the word and praying there were communication and administrative skills that were required which they lacked. Like someone said “the Churches that teach the word seem to be more aloof with people while those who don’t embrace more.” This is a wrong mindset. Let me say they mastered the science of ministry but forgot the art of it. The problem is you cannot teach art. It can only be observed and understood. It is a spirit.
