The finished work of Jesus means his redemptive work has been completed. This shouldn’t lead us to insinuate that Jesus is no longer doing anything because this work is finished. He has finished an aspect of his redemptive work but he now is the mediator of the new testament and also a high priest after the order of Melchisedec.
Jesus still lives to make intercession for us. He is still the one who baptizes us with the HolySpirit. He spoke in John 14:12-14 about what work he will do after his resurrection. He said, “And whatsoever you ask in my name that will I do… If you ask anything in my name I will do it”. Jesus is doing things today on the foundation of what he did at the Cross.
Let’s not create a false notion that the finished work means nothing more to be done. It means nothing more can be done to justify humanity, to make us righteous, to grant us access into the holiest of all, etc but on that foundation, the Godhead is still doing a lot. The Father said “sit until I make Thine enemies thy footstool”
We need to understand the work that was finished so we can on that foundation cooperate with the HolySpirit on the further work of heaven on the earth.
