All big issues today were once small issues escalated by the tongue. As a little spark that kindles a great fire so is the tongue among the different parts of the body and it boasts of being the root of all major events experienced by the whole.
James 3: 3-5 The Message (MSG)
3-5 “A bit in the mouth of a horse controls the whole horse. A small rudder on a huge ship in the hands of a skilled captain sets a course in the face of the strongest winds. A word out of your mouth may seem of no account, but it can accomplish nearly anything—or destroy it!”
What evolved into a full scale blow up between spouses, friends or members of the same family are not exclusive to them. It happened and is still happening elsewhere, the issue is how the tongue was used those situations determined the outcome.
A soft answer to a volatile situation will turn away wrath while hastiness in speech can set the whole cycle of their existence ablaze. The Bible teaches anyone who aspires to lead must first master the use of the tongue or you will end up blowing up with your words what you may have labored for years to build.
Proverbs 15:1
“A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.”
James 3:1-2
“My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation. For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.”
So if you going through anything today, decide what you really want to escalate. Do you want the issue poison every part of you life and even defile others around you? or do you want to quench the fiery darts of the wicked.
James 3:5-6 The Message (MSG)
5-6 “A word out of your mouth may seem of no account, but it can accomplish nearly anything—or destroy it!
It only takes a spark, remember, to set off a forest fire. A careless or wrongly placed word out of your mouth can do that. By our speech, we can ruin the world, turn harmony to chaos, throw mud on a reputation, send the whole world up in smoke and go up in smoke with it, smoke right from the pit of hell.”
Be therefore slow to speak, when the wicked stands before you provoking you, put a lid on your tongue.
